Lasham Regionals - 5 June 2011

The forecast last night was for heavy rain and thunderstorms; we had neither.   Lasham had held a free barbeque (with free drinks) on Saturday evening for their end of competition party and I think that with the poor weather forecast for the following day, many of the pilots were taking advantage.  It was a great bash.

This morning it was clouded over and still pretty breezy, it didn’t look promising and last night we’d purposely left the glider in the trailer.  The tanoy call of ‘Briefing at 10:00, do not rig before briefing’ was ominous.

At briefing they clearly showed that the day was going to be rubbish for cross country flying and the day was duly scrubbed.  Prize giving was held at midday – nothing for me as I’d only come 10th in the competition.

The challenge now was to get everything packed up before the rain started, go home and then unpack everything and immediately pack the car for Sweden.  That’s what we set out to do, and we probably would have achieved it with the Landrover, but certainly not the Mondeo as there just wasn’t enough room for all the gliding kit, the room required for 3 persons plus camping equipment and associated accessories.  We had left the glider trailer at Lasham and Steve decided to make another run back there in order to take some of the camping equipment and put it in the trailer…let’s hope our weight and balance will be fine for the long journey to Sweden.

This short blog belies the amount of time that it has taken to prepare for this trip just today, never mind about the previous months of preparation.  I will spend time tomorrow evening making sure we have everything required and then start looking at the route again.  In the meantime, there’s the small question of work that I need to catch up with….
